JBC releases long list of Chief Justice nominees


The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) released the long list of nominees to the post of Chief Justice of the Republic of the Philippines, which was vacated by Renato Corona after the Senate impeachment court convicted him last May 29, 2012.

Twenty-two nominees are qualified under the 1987 Constitution, made it to the JBC long list. They will undergo public interview starting July 24, 2012.

The remaining nominees, in alphabetical order:

Maria Lourdes Punzalan Aranal-Sereno (born July 2, 1960) 24th Chief Justice of the Republic of the Philippines. At age 52, she is the second youngest and the first female Chief Justice to lead the judiciary.

She is set to retire in the year 2030, after over 18 years in office, pursuant to the requirements of the Constitution of the Philippines.
